Our French Country Collection of bedroom furniture evokes the era of 19th century France when the absolutism of the monarchy gave way to the rise of the "Citizen King," Under Louis’ court, design became freer, simpler, but with superb attention to detail. Perhaps the most distinctive element of the Louis-Philipe style in furniture is the wide ogee mouldings (called "doucine") used under tops as bases on cases. These mouldings were often curved on the sides as well, giving a sense of flow to the tops and mouldings Feet and brackets terminated in scrolls. Hardware was used sparingly and consisted primarily of metal escutcheons or keyholes on the faces of doors and drawers which are generally inset, rather than lipped. Its clean, simple lines defy categorization, which is why it seems both sophisticated and country. Our Collection is crafted in solid cherry and maple -- no particle board or veneers. Note the different base heights and undertop moulding widths of the cases which, though more costly to manufacture, gives each piece a unique individuality. Here is a furniture collection that is a testament of the craftsman's art and is equally at home in both formal and more casual decor.
